SIEGE OF LENINGRAD — 1941–1944
German troops observe the Leningrad Front during one of the longest and most devastating sieges of the Second World War.
Beginning in September 1941, German and Axis forces encircled Leningrad while Soviet forces fought to maintain access to the city. The siege continued for more than two years before it was finally broken in January 1944.
WAR ARCHIVE presents the photograph in a restrained archival layout, retaining the stark atmosphere of the original image while adding only the essential historical context.
