Barbarossa — Operation Barbarossa | WWII Matte Poster | 28 × 40″ | WAR ARCHIVE 008

OPERATION BARBAROSSA — 22 JUNE 1941

German soldiers move east during the opening phase of Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union launched on 22 June 1941.

The invasion opened an immense front stretching from the Baltic to the Black Sea and began what would become the largest and most destructive theatre of the Second World War.

This WAR ARCHIVE design retains the bleak atmosphere of the original wartime photograph, with soldiers moving through the haze beneath a line of roadside crosses.
